Although greeting cards and postcards have been part of the Ethnographic Museum's holdings since its foundation, the Collection was established only in 2017 by extracting museum material from the library holdings and the holdings of the photo library (the so-called Photo Archive). The Collection contains around 7,000 objects, and is administratively and technically divided into two segments – greeting cards (Danijela Križanec-Beganović) and postcards (Matija Dronjić). It is a rare, attractive and extremely valuable museum collection dating from the turn of the 19th to the 20th century to the present day, focused mainly on general ethnographic/folkloristic themes through photography, illustration, or reproduction of works of art. The Collection also includes postcards with promotional and tourist, historical and commemorative, and political and ideological motifs, as well as occasional greeting cards with recognizable visual symbols of major Christian holidays.
